12 Nights / 13 Days Itinerary by overland
Overview:
Kailash yatra is a dream of every Hindu from all over the world as this is most important pilgrimage shrines in the world. It is the abode of Lord Shiva which is standing tall at 22,000 feet from sea level. Kailash Parvat is located in Tibet which can be accessed in three different ways, By road (Via Keyrung), By helicopter (Via Simikot) & By air (Via Lhasa). From there of these by road is most preferred because of Budget & other is that one gets time to acclimatize with high altitude.
In this yatra we travel by vehicle until Yam Dwar & from Yam Dwar our parikrama by foot begins. Total parikrama would be 52 km but on foot will be 42km (Day 1 -Darchen to Derafuk 12km/Day 2-Derafuk to Zutulphuk 22km/Day -Zutulphuk to Darchen 8Km). During parikrama we will Pass across Gauri Kunda where lord Ganesh was born & Dolma la Pass would be the highest pass, which we will be crossing on this parikrama which will be 5700mtrs from Sea level .

Kathmandu → Syabrubesi → Kyirong → Saga → Mansarovar → Kailash Parikrama → Return
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1324m)
- Activities:
- Arrival and pickup from Tribhuvan International Airport.
- Check-in at hotel.
- Evening briefing about the Yatra, document check, and short orientation.
- Stay: Hotel in Kathmandu
- Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing & Preparation
- Activities:
- Visit major temples: Pashupatinath, Guheshwori & Budhanilkantha (Sleeping Vishnu)
- Collect Tibet visa and permits.
- Last-minute shopping (warm clothes, trekking gear, medicines).
- Stay: Hotel in Kathmandu
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi (2400m) – 6-7 hours drive
- Distance: ~140 km
- Activities:
- Scenic drive through hilly terrain and forests to Syabrubesi near the Nepal-China border.
- Overnight at guesthouse/lodge.
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
- Note: Rough roads; be prepared.
Day 4: Drive to Kyirong (2,700m) – China Entry
- Activities:
- Cross the border at Rasuwagadhi (Nepal side) and enter Tibet via Kyirong Port.
- Immigration formalities.
- Acclimatization walk in the afternoon.
- Stay: Guesthouse in Kyirong
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 5: Drive to Saga (4,640m) – 5-6 hours drive
- Distance: ~170 km
- Activities:
- Drive through scenic Tibetan plains.
- Crossing rivers and high passes.
- Stay at Saga town for acclimatization.
- Stay: Hotel/Guesthouse in Saga
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 6: Drive to Mansarovar Lake (4,590m) – 6-7 hours drive
- Distance: ~450 km
- Activities:
- Reach sacred Mansarovar Lake.
- First view of Mt. Kailash (divine darshan!).
- Spiritual activities: dip in the lake (optional), puja, meditation.
- Stay: Guesthouse near Mansarovar
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 7: Drive to Darchen (4,575m) – Base of Mt. Kailash
- Distance: ~40 km
- Activities:
- Short drive to Darchen, the base for Kailash Parikrama.
- Prepare for Parikrama: rent ponies or porters if needed.
- Final briefing.
- Stay: Guesthouse in Darchen
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 8: Parikrama Day 1 – Darchen to Dirapuk (4,950m)
- Trek: ~12 km / 5-6 hours
- Highlights:
- Start of the Kora (circumambulation).
- Walk through beautiful valleys alongside fellow pilgrims.
- Magnificent view of Mt. Kailash’s North Face.
- Stay: Guesthouse/tent in Dirapuk
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 9: Parikrama Day 2 – Dirapuk to Zuthulphuk (4,790m) via Dolma La Pass (5,630m)
- Trek: ~22 km / 9-10 hours
- Highlights:
- Toughest and most rewarding day.
- Cross Dolma La Pass – the highest point of the Yatra.
- Pass by Gauri Kund (sacred lake).
- Stay: Guesthouse/tent in Zuthulphuk
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 10: Parikrama Day 3 – End of Kora; Drive to Saga
- Trek: ~10 km / 3-4 hours
- Activities:
- Complete final stretch of Kailash Parikrama.
- Pick-up and drive back to Saga.
- Stay: Hotel in Saga
- Meals: Breakfast lunch & dinner.
Day 11: Drive to Kyirong
- Activities:
- Return journey begins.
- Scenic drive back through Tibetan terrain.
- Stay: Guesthouse in Kyirong
- Meals: All meals included
Day 12: Return to Kathmandu
- Activities:
- Cross the border back to Nepal.
- Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu.
- Evening free or farewell dinner.
- Stay: Hotel in Kathmandu
- Meals: All meals included
Day 13: Depart Kathmandu
Departure transfer for onward flight
- Meals: Breakfast

Important Tips:
- Fitness: Start cardio and breathing exercises at least 1 month before.
- Health: Carry Diamox for AMS, plus personal medications.
- Clothing: Layered clothing, down jackets, thermal wear, gloves, sunglasses, walking sticks.
- Documents: Passport (6-month validity), passport-sized photos, Tibet group visa.
- Spiritual Items: Rudraksha, mala, photos for puja.
