Phnom Penh – Battambang – Siem Reap 8D7N

Day1: Phnom Penh Arrival (L/D)

 

Upon arrival in Phnom Penh Airport in Cambodia, you will be welcomed by your English-speaking guide and transferred to the hotel for check-in. The official check-in time is 2pm, However, an early check-in may be available upon request, subject to room availability and this is subject to an additional charge. You then have the rest of the day at your leisure to settle into your new surroundings in the historic Cambodian city of Phnom Penh.

In the evening, experience the sunset over the Mekong River Cruise. Cruise along Phnom Penh’s landmarks like the Royal Palace and the floating villages of Tonle Sap and Mekong. Witness the golden colors of Phnom Penh’s skyline when the sun is set. We return to the hotel and the remaining time is free at leisure to explore pub street and night markets on your own. In the evening, enjoy dinner at Indian restaurant. The guide and transport are available until 9 pm.

Day2: Phnom Penh City Tour (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, experience the local life by embarking on a cyclo tour of the bustling capital. The three-wheel bicycle rickshaw has been used to transport people and goods since French colonial times. We start from the Independence Monument, an impressive structure that sits at the centre of a roundabout. Dating back to 1958, it was created to mark the country’s independence from France in 1953. Next, continue to the Royal Palace and adjacent Silver Pagoda. Home to Cambodia’s official royal residence, the grounds are awash with regal structures, intimate temples, and murals that paint a picture of the country’s past. Then, we will learn about traditional arts at Champey Academy of Arts, a non-profit school that delivers Cambodian traditional performing arts training programs. Lunch at Indian restaurant. After that, we head to the neighboring National Museum to admire the range of ancient artefacts that date back to the pre-Angkor era. And of course, you will have time for shopping at Central Market, where we can put our haggling skills to the test and barter for souvenirs. We return to the hotel and the remaining time is free at leisure.

Please note: Visitors to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are required to keep their knees and shoulders covered. In the evening, enjoy dinner at Indian local restaurant. The guide and transport are available until 9 pm.

Day3: Phnom Penh – Battambang (B/D)

Breakfast at the hotel, the road trip from Phnom Penh to Battambang offers a mix of cultural, historical, and natural stops along the way. After departing from Phnom Penh, head to Oudong, the former royal capital, to explore its temples and stupas with panoramic views. Continue to Kampong Chhnang, known for its pottery and Tonle Sap Lake, where you can take a boat ride and visit the local pottery villages. Stop for lunch in Kampong Chhnang, enjoying fresh fish dishes, then proceed to Pursat for a break by the river and a visit to Kbal Spean Waterfall. Finally, continue to Battambang, passing through scenic rural landscapes, where you can unwind at the Battambang Riverside or explore the night market upon arrival.

Dinner at Indian restaurant. Transport is available until 9 pm.

Day4: Battambang Tour (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the hotel. We transfer to the Bamboo Train Station where we take a ride on a train made from bamboo. We then stop at Wat Kor village to meet the owners of a traditional Khmer house that dates to the 1920s. Here, we find out how this stunning wooden stilted home survived the Khmer Rouge regime. Then we set off on a discovery of the local countryside and explore surrounding Cambodian villages. We will see first-hand artisans, such as sculptors, rice wine brewers and noodle and rice paper producers open their homes and workshops so we can watch them at work. In the afternoon visit to Phare Ponleu Selpak, a non-profit association that helps to support the lives of children, young adults and their families.

After climbing the 337 steps to Phnom Banan Temple, we enjoy a stupendous view over the surrounding plains. We end our tour by heading to Sampov Mountain for the spectacular view of thousands of bats on the hunt and flylike clouds in the sky. Post-visit return to the hotel. The remaining time is free at leisure to explore pub street and night markets. (Vehicle and guide are available until 07:00PM only) Please note: There is a maximum of four people per bamboo train. Tour activities are subject to seasonal changes. Phare school will be closed every weekend and on public holidays.

Day5: Battambang – Siem Reap (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel. Enjoy a morning walking tour with Battambang’s architecture which will allow you to explore the city’s unique blend of traditional Khmer and French colonial styles and some preserved Chinese shophouses along the banks of the Sangke River. On this walking tour, you will also explore the streets of Battambang’s Old French Quarter near the Governor’s Residence. Here, you’ll find well-preserved colonial buildings that date back to the early 20th century, many of which have been converted into guesthouses, shops, and galleries. Battambang is in the process of being listed as part of the UNESCO creative cities list, ensuring that all the heritage buildings that make up this remarkable city will be preserved and protected. The tour will take you to some of Battambang’s architectural highlights, including Battambang Provincial Hall, Battambang Post Office, built by the French administration between 1907 and 1926, Central Market, Psar Nat and the Museum.

In the afternoon, we will hit the road for Siem Reap (180 km/ two to three hours by road). Upon arrival, drive to the hotel for check-in and relax until evening explore night markets and pub street. Dinner is on your own account. Later evening, enjoy Phare Circus Show (Seat B) with a live performance with drama, dance, live music, visual arts and circus, telling stories from recent Cambodian history, folklore and modern society. Siem Reap’s top-rated activity. Souvenir shopping for the best locally made arts and crafts. Revenue generated supports the free education and social support programs of Phare Ponleu Selpak non-profit school.” After the show transfer back to town or hotel for the rest of evening at leisure. (Show Time: 20:00-21:00)

Day6: Siem Reap City Tour – Excursion to Floating Village (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel. Experience life on the revered Tonle Sap Lake as we cruise to one of the floating villages that bobs on the water. From the hotel, we drive to the pier to board a wooden boat and cruise across the water. The revered lake – also called the Great Lake – is the beating heart of Cambodia, providing Cambodians with most of their protein. Standing as South-east Asia’s largest body of freshwater, it is one of the richest inland fishing areas in the world and is home to more than 149 fish species. It is also a popular breeding ground for many rare and endangered birds. In 1997, it was designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It is also home to several floating villages, where people live out their lives on the water. We head to one of them to sail past floating houses, shops, restaurants, schools and even karaoke bars.

Please note: The high-level water season is from mid-July to mid-February and the low-level water season runs the rest of the year.

We then explore Cambodia’s rich artisanal heritage at Artisans Angkor Les Chantiers Ecoles. We take a tour of their city centre workshops and arts and crafts school to discover more about the various training and production workshops. The social enterprise has spent more than two decades reviving and refreshing traditional Cambodian arts, including wood sculpting, stone carving, lacquer work, polychrome and stone patina work and silk weaving. End our visits at one of the city’s lively open markets, Psar Chars, also called the “Old Market”, where anything and everything is for sale. Return to the hotel and evening is free at leisure.

Day7: Ta Prohm – Angkor Wat – Angkor Thom (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel. Today’s, take a step back in time with the family and delve into the jewel of Cambodia’s crown, the temples of Angkor Wat Archaeological Park. We start the day at incredible 12th century Angkor Wat. The architectural feat stood at the heart of the Khmer Empire. Our next stop is root-riddled Ta Prohm, made famous after featuring Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie. Lunch is on Indian Restaurant.

In the afternoon’s temple exploration starts at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the Khmer Empire’s last capital built in the late-12th century. Inside the city’s ancient walls, we visit Bayon and its hundreds of giant carved faces; 11th century Baphoun; Hindu temple, Baksei Chamkrong; and Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.

 In the evening, enjoy a delightful Apsara Dance Show with dinner. The traditional Apsara dance is a graceful art form that dates to the Khmer Empire, offering a glimpse into Cambodia’s cultural and artistic heritage.

Day 8 Siem Reap departure (B)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
