ITINERARY OVERVIEW

Day 1: Mumbai to Cochin

Upon your arrival in Cochin, a Basi Leaf representative will warmly welcome you and arrange your transfer to a pre-booked hotel.

In the afternoon, embark on an enriching city tour of Cochin, a coastal gem nestled between the Arabian Sea and the Backwaters. This historic city played a pivotal role as a spice trade hub, which is reflected in its diverse cultural heritage. Explore Fort Kochi, where you’ll find the iconic Chinese fishing nets, the serene Dutch Cemetery, and historic places of worship, including the Paradesi Synagogue and several old churches. End your day with an enchanting Kathakali performance, a traditional dance drama known for its expressive storytelling through intricate facial expressions and elaborate body movements.


Day 2: Cochin to Munnar (126.6 km ~ 3 hrs 50 min)

After a delightful breakfast, check out from your hotel and set off for Munnar, a picturesque hill station nestled at the confluence of three mountain streams: Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. Renowned for its sprawling tea plantations, winding lanes, and verdant landscapes, Munnar is a haven for nature lovers. Upon arrival, check in to your pre-booked hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.


Day 3: Munnar

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a sightseeing tour of Munnar. Start with a visit to Photo Point, a scenic spot surrounded by lush tea gardens, perfect for capturing the beauty of the area. Continue to Mattupetty Dam, where you can take a serene boat ride. Next, visit Echo Point, a natural wonder where your voice echoes back from the surrounding hills, creating a fun and memorable experience.

Explore Kundala Lake, where the tea estates provide a picturesque backdrop, and indulge in a Shikara boat ride. Proceed to Top Station, renowned for its breathtaking views of the Kannan Devan Hills and the Neelakurinji plant, which blooms once every 12 years.

In the afternoon, visit Rajamalai/Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and other wildlife. If available, consider taking a safari to further explore the park’s natural beauty. End your day at leisure, relaxing in the serene environment of Munnar.


Day 4: Munnar to Thekkady (91.3 km ~ 3 hrs)

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and drive to Thekkady, home to Periyar National Park, the largest Tiger Reserve in India. Thekkady is a biodiversity hotspot, offering a range of activities for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Choose from a boat cruise on Periyar Lake, a thrilling jeep safari, or an elephant safari (advance booking recommended). For the adventurous, bamboo rafting is also available (subject to availability and additional cost). Upon arrival, check in to your pre-booked hotel and unwind.

Day 5: Thekkady to Kumarakom (130.5 km ~ 3 hrs 26 min)

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and travel to Kumarakom, a serene village situated on the shores of Vembanad Lake, just 16 km from Kottayam. This picturesque destination is known for its backwaters and the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, which was developed from an old rubber plantation. The sanctuary, spread across 14 acres, is a paradise for birdwatchers, especially during the migratory season.

Check in to your pre-booked hotel in Kumarakom. After some rest, enjoy a backwater cruise on Vembanad Lake (cost not included). You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the bird sanctuary, where you can observe a variety of avian species in their natural habitat.
