Cochin - Munnar - Thekkady

ITINERARY OVERVIEW

4 Nights – 5 Days

Day 1: Mumbai – Cochin
On arrival at Cochin Basil Leaf representative will drive you to your pre-booked hotel.  After some rest set out for local sightseeing in Cochin.

Cochin (Kochi) is spread across islands and promontories in a stunning location between the Arabian Sea and the Backwaters. The city was founded in 1341 when a flood created a natural safe port, which became the principal harbour for Malabar Coast’s spice trade. Cochin was on the main trade route between Europe and China. The rulers invited people of various religions to settle here, attracting the Jews and the Christians who built places of worship and their own communities.

Visit Fort Kochi which is a small village along the Arabian coastline & is famous for the Chinese fishing nets ( though it is nothing to with China), Dutch cemetery, Synagogue & Churches. Later enjoy a beautiful Kathakali performance ( pre-booking is required ). Kathakali literally meaning “Story Dance” is the pantomimic dance drama, the dancing and the acting being blended together into an inseparable form. It is a combination of facial expressions and body movements, which brings out the thought and emotion of the character. Kathakali is predominantly a male art and the dancer never stands erect, his knees being spread out & his legs forming a rhombus. The female character is Lasya which is gentle & grateful.  Evening at leisure.

Sprawling tea plantations, picture-book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji. This flower that bathes the hills in blue every twelve years, will bloom next in 2030. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m.
