ITINERARY OVERVIEW
Day 1: Mumbai to Cochin
Begin your journey by arriving in Kochi, a city steeped in history and culture, much like Mumbai, but with its own distinct charm. This vibrant coastal city, known as the “Queen of the Arabian Sea,” was established as a major port in 1341 after a flood carved out a natural harbor. Kochi quickly became a hub for the spice trade along the Malabar Coast, drawing traders and settlers from around the world, including Jewish and Christian communities who established their own enclaves here.
Explore Fort Kochi, a historic neighborhood where time seems to stand still. Wander along the shoreline, where you’ll find the famous Chinese fishing nets, an enduring symbol of the city’s multicultural heritage. Delve into the past with visits to the Dutch Cemetery, and the Paradesi Synagogue, and admire the European-influenced architecture of the churches. As the day winds down, immerse yourself in Kerala’s rich artistic traditions with an evening Kathakali performance. This classical dance-drama, known for its elaborate costumes and expressive storytelling, offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the cultural heart of Kerala.
